Core Maths is a brand new course which is intended for students who are keen to extend their GCSE Maths skills for future study or work, but aren’t planning on taking Mathematics at AS or A Level.
At the end of the one-year course, you will receive a Level 3 Certificate in Mathematics in Context, Core Maths (equivalent to AS Level study). Studying Mathematics in context through Core Maths will equip you with a number of transferable skills recognised by universities and employers alike.
Core Maths has been designed to maintain and develop real-life Maths skills. What you study is not purely theoretical or abstract; it can be applied on a day-today basis in work, study or life. This subject would be a good addition to subjects such as Science, Geography, Business or Social Sciences to help refine and develop your Maths skills.
The practical skills you will gain from this Core Maths qualification will be useful across a broad range of Higher Education pathways or employment routes.
From an HE perspective, you may wish to continue your studies with a business or social sciences oriented qualification and use the transferable Maths skills you have developed to enhance your progression.
